An Attitude of Gratitude

Watching news reports of massive snowstorms across the country earlier this week, I was overcome with gratitude.  I’m grateful that, for once, we who live in the Twin Cities escaped the storm. I ‘m grateful that I live in a warm house with food in the fridge and cars in the garage.  I’m grateful that since I lost my husband both neighbors and strangers have ensured that my driveway and walkway are snow-free.

I’m grateful that I have cool kids, a couple of whom have chosen worthy mates to share their lives with. I’m grateful that, at this moment in time, my family is mostly healthy.  I’m grateful that if my son’s virus worsens, he has health insurance that will cover a doctor visit and prescriptions.

I’m grateful that I have friends who offered to take my dog when I go on vacation with other friends who have welcomed my daughter and me on their upcoming adventure.

I’m grateful that for more than 20 years I was married to a wonderful man who worked hard and played hard and ensured that when he died prematurely the kids and I would be financially sound.

I’m glad that I stumbled upon a wonderful editor who has become a great friend and mentor and given me the opportunity to chase a dream of being a newspaper columnist.  Thanks to Mike Burbach, starting tomorrow my columns will appear on the St. Paul Pioneer Press Opinion page every other Friday.

What are you grateful for?
